Qualifications

Applicants must be doctoral candidates in counseling or clinical psychology programs. They must have completed all course work, and comprehensive examinations. Applicants are strongly encouraged to have completed their dissertation proposal prior to the start of internship. Preference will be given to applicants who as of November 1 have: conducted over 200 hours of individual therapy with adult clients; completed a practicum at a university counseling center; and have successfully defended their dissertation proposal.

This year the application process will occur on-line. Please see APPIC website for more information. All of the application materials will be uploaded via the applicant portal on the APPIC website. We will not accept any paper materials.

Application materials must be submitted by November 6, 2009 and must include:

  • The APPIC uniform internship application
  • An official transcript of all graduate work
  • Three letters of recommendation: two from clinical supervisors who have observed the candidate's applied work, and the third from a graduate faculty member familiar with the candidate's academic work
  • A current vita
  • Similar to a "cover letter" or "letter of interest," write a brief essay (up to 500 words) to describe your qualifications and professional experience which you believe make you a good match with our site. Please also elaborate on your specific goals for internship.

    ***Clarification:  We are not asking for a supplemental  essay in addition to the AAPI requirement.  The suggested length and content are meant to be recommendations for an effective cover letter for our site.   If you have already sent this as a supplemental essay, we will read both the AAPI essay and the additional essay, but it is not necessary to include 2 essays.   We apologize for the lack of clarity in our materials.***
